Professor, Department of Hematology and Oncology

It is now 34 years since I received my diploma from Emory University School of Medicine. As I have aged, my appreciation for the opportunity afforded me by my Emory education has grown exponentially. I have come to describe myself to students as the luckiest person alive, knowing that many of my classmates and fellow graduates feel similarly. I write to ask you to help us make an Emory medical education affordable for all, regardless of their family income.

Gifts from alumni, parents, and friends are an essential element in recruiting what I consider to be the most altruistic, committed, and compassionate group gathered together anywhere on earth. Our students and residents bring an amazing diversity of academic prowess, service experience, and life experiences together in the “crucible” that forms a physician. Our students take advantage of being among our fantastic residents and faculty as we work together to advance research and to provide the highest quality care to patients in multiple hospitals and clinics throughout Atlanta.

Emory School of Medicine strives to train physicians who are excellent clinicians, both in their professional attributes as well as their clinical skills. With ongoing support from annual donors, Emory can continue as a leader in training the very best physicians.

With warmest regards,

J. William Eley, MD, 79C, 83M, 86MR, 89FM, 90PH
